Tyrone SFC Final
Errigal Ciaran 0-15 Edendork 1-12
By Francis Mooney at O’Neill’s Healy Park
Errigal and Edendork will meet again in the Tyrone SFC final replay after a dramatic end at O’Neills Healy Park.
Darren McCurry’s stoppage time two-point equaliser ensures another game is required.
Substitute Eoin Kelly thought he had won it for Errigal with a late two-pointer, but there was still time for McCurry to rescue his side right at the death.
Errigal were dealt a savage blow prior to throw-in as it was confirmed that Darragh Canavan would play not part in the decider due to injury, and with younger brother Ruairi also absent, their attack was severely weakened.
And the pre-match favourites, with the wind in their backs, struggled to make inroads against a well organised Edendork defence.
It was a worrying half-hour for Enda McGinley’s side, who managed to hit the target just four times, teenager Aodhan Quinn accounting for 0-4 with a couple of floated two-pointers.
Forced to shoot from difficult positions, they hit nine wides in the first half alone, while the St Malachy’s raided to pick off scores through Conor Mallon, Neil Kilpatrick and Jake Ferguson.
Errigal led by 0-5 to 0-1 after 12 minutes, but managed just one more point in the remainder of the opening half, a short kick-out intercepted by Shea McDermott, who sent Peter Harte in to score.
While Darren McCurry had been held scoreless by his Tyrone team-mate Cormac Quinn, they were happy to reach the break very much in touch. At the interval, Errigal led by 0-6 to 0-3
Half-time sub Fiachra Nelis hit the net with his first touch to put Edendork ahead for the first time.
Back came Errigal with a flurry of scores from Peter Harte and Peter Og McCartan, pushing them three clear going into the final quarter.
Four in a row from Edendork, two of them from McCurry, had the, back in front, but Errigal replied. Then came saviour McCurry’s glorious equaliser right at the death.
